We, as an SAP company, at EnergyCom in Zurich

The Church of Our Lady, the Sprüngli confectionery, Google’s European research centre – Zurich is known for many things. For several years now, energy experts have also been gathering here annually to discuss current developments and challenges, as well as future trends. To this end, the ‘EnergyCom’ senior executive conference was launched, which is regarded as the leading independent platform for decision-makers in the Swiss energy sector.

And what about us? We’ve been taking part for two years now – so we travelled to Zurich again this year to learn about exciting developments and share our expertise.

In this blog post, we’ll explain what connects us to EnergyCom and reveal more about this business-to-business platform.

scc and EnergyCom

So, first of all, the burning question: what is an SAP company like us – scc – doing at this Swiss conference? The answer is quite simple – and essentially boils down to two reasons:
Branch office in Switzerland:
We have had a branch office in Switzerland, right in Zurich, since 2022. In our neighbouring country, the SAP market is twice as large as in Austria, and many major companies are headquartered in Switzerland. For us, these were – and remain – ideal conditions for business expansion. Not only has the team there now grown to 14 people, but we have also established an SAP partnership, enabling us to support local customers even more effectively.
Key focus areas in Switzerland:
In Switzerland, we support companies with all their SAP-related needs, such as the migration to S/4HANA. However, we also place a strong emphasis on two key areas: utilities – that is, the energy market – and the healthcare sector. This is because these sectors are currently facing particularly significant challenges when it comes to succession planning – and this is precisely where our expertise comes into play. In this context, we like to refer to this as ‘boutique consultancy’ – that is, consultancy that is optimally tailored to this specific sector.
It should now be clear why EnergyCom is such an important and promising forum for us – and we are very grateful for the exchange of thoughts and ideas that takes place there.

Thanks to our branch in Switzerland and our expertise, particularly in the utilities and healthcare sectors, we have a local presence and can offer bespoke consultancy services. At the same time, we can draw on the experience of nearly 300 other colleagues across the scc Group. This is an ideal scenario for both us and our clients.

EnergyCom – shaping the future strategically in Zurich

So what exactly is EnergyCom? Here are a few key points:

1
Expert group:

The interdisciplinary community that meets here, in the city on the Limmat, to exchange ideas comprises an exclusive group of personally invited energy suppliers and producers, technology companies, value-chain partners, investors, representatives from the scientific community, associations, public authorities and politicians.

2
Selected partners:

The Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE), EMPA, the ETH Energy Science Centre, the Swiss Gas Association (VSG) and the Swissmem industry association are actively involved as ‘Knowledge Partners’.

3
Broad discourse:

The conference centres on informal dialogues between executives and fellow specialists – so-called ‘peers’. The aim is therefore to facilitate a comprehensive exchange – away from the media spotlight. The following three key topics will be discussed: trends and strategies in the field of energy supply, IT aspects and innovations.

4
Energy market:

The business-to-business platform thus makes an important contribution to shaping the strategic future of the energy market and the energy transition in Switzerland – and beyond.

Conference topics

1
Expansion:
EnergyCom 2024 brought the topic of grid infrastructure expansion to the forefront of critical debate. After all, the further development, modernisation and expansion of the grids involve investments running into the billions. However, the electricity grid is the lifeblood of the electricity supply – and thus also a driving force behind forward-looking energy and climate strategies. In this context, the results of various ETH studies on the further development of the distribution network were also presented.
2
Virtual assistant:
Joule can guide users through programmes and acts as a virtual assistant.
3
Transactional:
Furthermore, the planning of thermal and gas networks must be integrated synergistically, and there is a need for reliable framework conditions, an appropriate rate of return and streamlined procedures.
4
Digitalisation:
Digital platforms that are transforming existing business models or creating entirely new ones were also a key focus.
5
Paradigm shift:
With the ‘Mining the Atmosphere’ research initiative, Empa, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology, proposed nothing less than a paradigm shift: society should evolve from being a CO₂-emitting one to a CO₂-sequestering one that utilises the greenhouse gas as a valuable raw material. The City of Zurich and ‘Entsorgung + Recycling Zürich’ (ERZ for short) are on the verge of achieving negative CO₂ emissions in order to become climate-neutral by 2040.

The exchange between Switzerland and Austria, which we at scc facilitated, was very well received at this conference and greatly enriched the discussions. This positive feedback was passed on to us.

Planning, forecasting, acting: How SAP Integrated Business Planning takes corporate management to a new level

30. 07. 2026
Dozens of Excel documents. Loosely linked. No transparent – let alone comprehensive – overview of the planning situation. And on top of that, opaque processes. Sounds like a scenario straight out of the 1990s, doesn’t it? And yet you still come across situations like this. But they have a number of other drawbacks for businesses. The modern world looks very different – with an intelligent, integrated planning tool such as SAP Integrated Business Planning.

"Get agile or go down tryin'". What reads like the title of a new rap album is the motto of our time. Because if you want to continue to exist as a company, you have to be agile and remain flexible. In other words, welcome, allow and manage change. And for this to succeed, it is essential to take a more holistic view of projects, to analyze processes, but also to say goodbye to old ways of thinking and to explore potential conflicts. The topic of the hour is therefore: project and process management, including change management. And for this reason, we have also been dealing with this for a long time.

A few months ago, we expanded our professional playing field with a new branch - in Switzerland. In line with the growth in employees and their local knowledge, skills and experience, SAP also appointed us as an official partner there a few months ago. And: we were not only able to recruit new local employees, but also draw on experienced ones. On those who dared to emigrate and are willing to actively help build up a new location. And we asked two of these scc pioneers for an interview.
