Mayr-Melnhof Holz is one of Europe’s leading processors of wood and plays an important role in the wood industry. The company has three sawmills and four wood-processing subsidiaries with a total of 2,000 employees. To prepare the company for further growth, the decision was made in 2019 to implement an international ERP system, and the choice fell on SAP.

Goals

The project “Fit for the Future” was launched to lay the foundation for continued company growth. In the course of this project, the system was converted to SAP S/4HANA, which meets the industry-specific requirements for ERP software.

Results

Staged, partial implementation of the various modules

Because the various areas of the company have different requirements, the SAP modules were implemented partially and in stages over the course of the migration to SAP S/4HANA. At the start of 2020, for example, the module SAP HCM and the modules SAP FI, CO, AA, IM, PS were rolled out to all Austrian, Czech and German sales organizations. The module SAP MM, on the other hand, was not implemented at two sites because they produce special wood structures. SAP EAM for maintenance and logistics was introduced as a pilot project at one processing site. The plan now is to implement SAP MM and SAP EAM at all sites and roll out SAP at the sawmills.

Close collaboration and regular check-ins

The project succeeded thanks to excellent teamwork between scc and Mayr-Melnhof Holz. The close collaboration in decision-making and the regular review meetings for continual coordination and adjustments were key factors. SAP S/4HANA was successfully rolled out in the company and now provides a firm foundation for continued growth and a powerful platform for building future solutions.
